Rocking up for you first race in something doesn’t normally involve the words Australian Championship! The decision to race the Australian Cyclocross champs was a last minute one for Bec, one that involved a borrowed and a bit of rush getting to know it in a day or so.
Cyclocross has always been some thing we have both wanted to do, after all its hard not to be attracted to the format and the atmosphere, and as we are both road cyclists and mountainbikers the fit feels obvious! So when a bike came available at the last minute through a friend, Bec naturally jumped at it.
The race saw Bec start on the Back of the grid and slowly but surely work her way up to 3rd place. Looking very solid and sitting pretty here, then at the top of ‘The climb’ That chain thing’ happened! The chain jumping off and what followed was what seemed like an eternity as it just wouldn’t go back on, she is no slouch with the mechanical skills either, here she feel back to 5th where she finished. Although disappointed to drop from 3rd to 5th pretty happy to podium at her first CX race and Aussie champs, (aswell as being named in the Australia team for CX world champs). Lisa Jacobs defended her Australian title on board her Focus Meares!
