We pulled out the Tassie passport and headed south again (much to our disgust …. not! ) to spend some time out of the concrete jungle of Melbourne life and again hit the amazing Blue Derby tails for the second edition of the Aussie Marathon Nats being held there.

This year, as with the Odyssey, we were feeling really under done for the distance of Marathon format, but with the carrot of Blue Derby’s amazing trails hanging in front of us if anything it would be great to get some Kms in the Legs.

We had two very different race plans with Ren deciding to conserve and sit back at the start knowing too well the distance was going to be an issue. Bec decided to throw caution to the wind and just go out starting solid and see what would happen.

The weather leading into the race had been pretty wet making the trails very muddy in sections, this combined with the large amount of climbing and distance of course took its toll on a lot of riders, becoming a race of attrition.

We did have a hard day out, Unfortunately Bec was out at the 50km. Ren battled on but it was a tough one, coming home in 8th, pleased however to have finished and banked some Kms.

Peta Mullens in good form put the hummer down from word dot and thats the way the day ended with her taking a very convincing win.
